Quanta+ on Kubuntu 18.04

After installing Kubuntu 18.04 (Bionic Beaver) I tried to install the HTML-Editor Quanta plus. What should I say? It works!

Alternatively I tried to use the Trinity desktop. But I got some problems and 0.9 GB HDD-space seemed to be an overkill.

Some of the packages used in this howto are no longer supported and may be insecure. You're using them and this tutorial on own risk!

Known issues:

Not tested: Cerversia

This tutorial describes the installation on a 64bit-system. If you're using another architecture, you must download the needed files yourself.

Step 1

Install some needed packages from the official repositories of Xenial Xerus:

sudo apt-get install cvs xsltproc gdebi-core

Step 2

We must download a great number of files. Therefore we'll use a temporary directory

mkdir ~/InstallQuanta

and now go to the new directory

cd ~/InstallQuanta

Step 3

We download some files to prepare installation.. It's a lot of work but worth to do:

wget http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/libm/libmng/libmng1_1.0.10-3_amd64.deb
wget http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/q/qt-x11-free/libqt3-mt_3.3.8-b-8ubuntu3_amd64.deb
wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/36453676/libavahi-qt3-1_0.6.25-1ubuntu6_amd64.deb
wget http://ftp.ksu.edu.tw/FTP/Linux/ubuntu/pool/universe/l/launchpad-integration/launchpad-integration_0.1.56.2_all.deb
wget http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/i/ilmbase/libilmbase6_1.0.1-6ubuntu1_amd64.deb
wget http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/l/lcms/liblcms1_1.19.dfsg2-1.2+deb7u1_amd64.deb
wget https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/audiofile/0.3.2-0ubuntu4/+build/2986097/+files/libaudiofile0_0.3.2-0ubuntu4_amd64.deb

wget http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/t/tidy/libtidy-0.99-0_20091223cvs-1.5_amd64.deb

Install them in the same order like in this listing:

sudo gdebi liblcms1_1.19.dfsg2-1.2+deb7u1_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi libmng1_1.0.10-3_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi libavahi-qt3-1_0.6.25-1ubuntu6_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi launchpad-integration_0.1.56.2_all.deb
sudo gdebi libaudiofile0_0.3.2-0ubuntu4_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi libqt3-mt_3.3.8-b-8ubuntu3_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi libilmbase6_1.0.1-6ubuntu1_amd64.deb
sudo gedebi esound-common_0.2.41-11_all.deb
sudo gdebi libesd0_0.2.41-11_amd64.deb
sudo gedbi libtidy-0.99-0_20091223cvs-1.5_amd64.deb

Now an intermediate step to install some more needed files from the official repositories

sudo apt install docbook-defguide libaudiofile1 libilmbase6 liblua50 liblualib50 tidy xbase-clients

Let us download finally all needed files to install Quanta +

The last file to download is the languagepack. Replace XX in the filename with the country code you need, i.e. en for english, de for german

wget http://ppa.launchpad.net/kde3-maintainers/ppa/ubuntu/pool/main/k/kde-i18n-kde3/kde-i18n-XX-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1102641+rebuild2_all.deb

Step 4

Finally the time has come to install Quanta plus. ATTENTION: you need to intall the packages in the same order as in the following listing!!!!

sudo gdebi libopenexr6_1.6.1-7ubuntu1_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi libtiff4_3.9.5-2ubuntu1.9_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi kdelibs-data-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1152788_all.deb
sudo gdebi libartsc0-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1075407_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi libarts1c2a-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1075407_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi kdelibs4c2a-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1152788_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi kxsldbg-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1107611_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi konsole-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1152392_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi kommander-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1107611_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi kompare-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1075407+rebuild2_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi kfilereplace-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1107611_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi kimagemapeditor-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1107611_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi klinkstatus-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1107611_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi quanta-data-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1107611_all.deb
sudo gdebi quanta-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1107611_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi libcvsservice0-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1075407+rebuild2_amd64.deb
sudo gdebi cervisia-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1075407+rebuild2_amd64.deb

The last file to install is the language pack. Replace the XX with country code you used at downloading this file (see above in STEP 4)

sudo gdebi kde-i18n-XX-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1102641+rebuild2_all.debudo gdebi kde-i18n-XX-kde3_3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1102641+rebuild2_all.deb

Step 5

To test your installation type into your terminal:

/opt/kde3/bin/quanta

No menu entries would be created for Quanta plus, like it happened in earlier versions. You have to manually create shortcut links and menu entries. On kde its easy. Right click the kde icon on bottom left and click "Manage Applications" and add the menu entry in the relevant section.

Step 6

After installation we may delete the temporary directory, or you may put it to your backup, your choice... Leave the directory:

cd ../

and delete:

rm -rf InstallQuanta/ rm -rf InstallQuanta/

Step 7

Last but not least:

Sry my bad english and HAVE FUN!!
